Thanks to Caitlin Casey & Katie Skiff for creating this masterpiece! Take a look inside. Many terrific articles written by current Captains & Coaches, founders of the Men’s, Women’s (Sirens) & Youth (CDYR) teams (great history), and a Jonsey update. Thanks to each of you for taking the time to write and submit an article!
7/4: Thirty or so players showed up at The Ruck to informally kick-off the 4oth where we were treated to free food, courtesy of The Ruck. 7/5: A couple dozen players got in a round of golf at Hidden Meadows and Capital Hills despite the near 100 degree weather. Thanks to Paul Bulmer for leading the effort at Capital Hills. Later that evening, we set sail on a ship all to ourselves - 141 passengers (players, spouses, children and friends). Though we didn’t travel far (the rail bridge blocked the river), a good time was had by all. For those for didn’t attend, you missed a terrific slide show (featuring many photos taken before color). The slide show would not have been possible without so many of you sharing your photos and the monumental work of Caitlin Casey in bringing them to life! However, the greatest attraction of the night had to be “Dancing with the Sirens”. After docking, a waiting yellow school bus ferried us over the Spiak’s “House of Iniquity”. With Jake (Ray Charles) Spiak on piano, we dropped back into time with an OB chorus of “Trailers” and others songs only played on vinyl. Jake & Barb treated us to an evening of wings, ribs, pizza, drink and dancing!! 7/6: With the weather in the 90s, Uncle Al Green came thru with a huge tent that saved us all from wilting. We honored past players with a memorial service (Billy Commerford’s wife and brother were present) and added new players to the original 25 Men selected for the Hall of Fame in 1998 and then inducted the first 15 Women into the Class of 2013 HOF (Awards By Walsh generously donated $300 towards the HOF mugs). Mayor Jennings stopped by twice (Did he actually think we would start on-time?). Hopefully, we laid the foundation for creating a new agreement with the city for the continued use of Dick Green Field (Thanks Gerard!). The Traditional Knicks’ Cookout lived up to its billing (even with the new addition of eggplant rollettes). Master Chef Chip Ennis, slaving over hot coals, once again served up the best steak ever! Thanks also to Erin Putnam who coordinated the delivery of libations and donated a keg of delicious Irish Cider. Kudos to Spiak’s and The Ruck for supplying more than enough food for everyone. Last, but not least, thank you to everyone who attended the 4oth Anniversary Reunion! Many Original Knicks attended the festivities, including: Chip Ennis, the McCabe Brothers, Judge Ray Elliot, Peter Kehoe, Cecil Murphy, John “Boom Boom” LaPann, John DeLuca, Dave Hoffsis and others. I’m especially grateful to those who found it important enough to travel great distances to join us – from throughout the Northeast, to across the US (Jim McCardle-Florida, Ray Daley-Ohio, Joe Worobey-Illinois, Drew Einspanier-Wisconsin, Mike Pitts-California, to name a few) and from around the world (Dan Pieri-Switzerland, Peter Thompson-Australia). It was great to see so many “children” of the Albany Knickerbocker family together. Hope to see you all again at the 5oth! Cheers, Chuck Thank you to the following sponsors for providing donations for the raffle: Aesthetic Science Institute, City Beer Hall, Country Pride Cheese House, Bayou, Bulich Creekside Farm, Legends, McGeary's, Meredith’s Bread, Merry Monk and Tierra Farm!
