Please keep August 27th available to attend a fundraising poker crawl for the club. This event is a bar crawl with a twist. Complete details are still in the works, so keeps your eyes out for further information. The current plan for the crawl, which will take place from 7-11p is as follows:
Bar 1: The victory (awaiting confirmation/details) Bar 2: Mcgearys: Happy hour specials and 20% off food, expanding the front porch for our group Bar 3: Bayou (awaiting confirmation/details) Bar 4: Pearl Street Pub (awaiting confirmation/details) Bar 5: City Beer Hall (confirmed, awaiting details) Cost will be $25 and each participant will get a wristband or stamp to identify them as part of the poker crawl as well as and schedule and map for the crawl. We will be at each bar for 45 minutes. The poker twist:At each bar there will be 2 card dealers. These dealers will move from bar to bar ten minutes ahead of the group. When arriving at the bar, each participant draws one card. They may not draw the same card twice. If they do, they have to put down the card and redraw. The dealers write down on paper what cards people drew to avoid cheating and to account for any lost cards. The people with the best and worst poker hands get prizes (not yet announced, guess you will just have to show up and see for yourself what you could win!). Winners will recieve a prize. Watch out for a Facebook invite and more information through email. Walk-ins will also be welcome. Please contact Skeeter (Lauren Sirken) if you would like to help organizing this event or if you know any of the owner for the unconfirmed bars. She will be looking for help to post fliers advertising the event about a week prior at the participating bars. Lets get as many people as we can to help fund-raise as well as show our appreciation for our supporters such as Tess (owner of McGeary's), who would like to help us do more fundraisers in the future. The Billy Smith Open (BSO) returns this year in a revised format. This year the outing will be held on August 20 at the Hidden Meadows, a par three course in Glenmont, 3 miles south of Albany. Once the approximate number of golfers is known, first tee times will be set.
This year the event will be purely a social, an opportunity for the Club as a whole to get together. There will be no fundraising involved. Players may sign up as a foursome, or come as an individual golfer and be drawn in to a foursome. Golfers will be allowed to carry only four clubs, with additional clubs allowed for $10 each. The format will be just plain ol' golf - not a scramble. Play your own ball, count your own strokes. The Club will ask for a $30 donation per player to cover greens fees and a light lunch at the turn. Cart rental is optional. Beer and burgers will be available afterwards for an additional $5, and, of course, donations will be accepted. All proceeds in excess of what is owed to the course will be donated to the Club. Please contact Charles Colley if you are interested in playing, or have a whole foursome interested in playing! He will get out the tee times to the participants as soon as they are available.
