The Albany Knickerbockers Rugby Football Club was established in 1973. Building off a strong foundation begun by the clubs founders, the club eventually advanced to field a competitive Division I Men's side. The success of the club attracted international attention and became a destination for elite players. In 2000, the Knicks began fielding a Women's side. In 2010, the Women won the Division II National Championship Title and moved up to play competitively in Division I.
The Knicks have been one of the most successful clubs in the Northeast, winning numerous league and tournament championships, touring internationally, and developing All-Star players, some of whom have risen to play with the USA National Rugby Team. Currently, the Knicks are comprised of a Women’s Division II team, a Men’s Division III team, an Old Boys side, an Old Girls side, and a thriving youth program. The fall is our competitive league season that begins at the end of August and runs through November. The spring season consists of indoor training, touch rugby with outdoor practices beginning mid-March. The club is governed by the New England Rugby Football Union and USA Rugby.
