Rochester vs. Albany
Albany, NY Albany 93 - Rochester 0 May 7th, 2011 Albany's last home game of the Spring 2011 season saw them hosting Rochester, a team they try to play each spring. Last year Albany travelled to Rochester and were surprised by a team that showed a lot of athleticism and skill on the field and, as a result, handed Albany a loss. This spring Albany took last spring's lessons to heart and came out of the gate strong and didn't look back once they got going. Strong ball retention in the forwards set up the backs with many scores in the first half. The Albany backs ran in 8 tries in the first half and the forwards added two more of their own. JoAnne Kos was able to slot 4 conversions off those tries and also had not one but two conversions bounce off the goal posts- tough breaks on what had been a great season of kicking with 26 conversions and 3 drop goals in 6 games- score was 53-0 at the half. Rochester played second half with a lot of heart and determination despite being low on scoring opportunities and players (kudos to the Albany players who stepped up and played with Rochester in both halves). A lot of teams would of let the score line diminish their efforts, but Rochester was all class in the second half and was able to slow down Albany in the second half. It took Ruth Robertson speed to break thru the Rochester backline and Erin Putnam and Shannon Wallace added scores of their own in the half to represent the forwards. JoAnne Kos added 10 more points to the score with 5 conversion in the half. Final score 93-0 and it must be noted that Rochester definitely won the social that day as well. Scoring line: Ruth Robertson, 4 tries; JoAnne Kos, 2 tries, 9 conversions; Kristin Bonomo, 2 tries; Beth Fairall, 1 try; Lauren Sirkin, 1 try; Willow Eyers, 1 try; Carrie Emigh, 1 try; Rachel Start, 1 try; Erin Putnam, 1 try; Shannon Wallace, 1 try MVPs: Alicia Backus and Tracy Watson
